HARDSHIP GRANTS

If you are a Airman or Soldier of the Iowa National Guard experiencing an unplanned hardship and need support, the We Care for Iowa Hardship Grant helps you address expenses due to an unexpected event. To qualify for financial assistance, Airment/Soldiers/dependents must: experience a qualifying hardship, demonstrate financial need, and have made a reasonable attempt to address the hardship on their own.

Qualifying Hardship Examples

Major Illness/Injury

Domestic Violence

Death

Natural Disaster – Flood, Fire, Hurricane, Avalanche, etc.

Urgent Travel due to Hardship

Emergency Home Repairs to Render an Unliveable Home Habitable

Temporary Shelter – Following a Disaster or Domestic Violence Incident

Loss of Job not by Willful Misconduct

Sudden Loss of Transportation

Non-Qualifying Hardship Examples

Housing Assistance Related to Expense Such as Interest Rate Increase

Any Item or Situation Covered by Insurance

Income Taxes

Credit Card Debt, School Loans, or Payday Loans

Non-Medical Wage Garnishments

Personal Comfort Items

Any Loss or Expense Associated With Illegal Activity
